Uzuraya
One of the most popular places to get Soba in Nagano; however there is always a long line. But the wait is certainly worth it. Make sure you have the soba gaki and tempura, the wheat used here is grown in the high plateau and therefore has its own particular taste that you can only know by trying.

Ramen Misoya
Score some good eats for cheap at the Ramen Misoya, conveniently located right outside the JR Nagano station, North Exit 2. The miso ramen here is served up very fast but don’t let that make you think it is on par with fast food! This miso is perfected and does not disappoint, nor does it hurt your wallet!

Chanko Ryori Tamaya
Come for the hot pot and stay for the organ meats! Think of this Japanese pub as a Ruby Tuesdays or Chilies but with tatami mats, and the crap on the walls is sumo memorabilia instead. The most popular dish is the Chicken Hotpot, chicken wings and yakitori. The shop is located the Yudanaka station.

Manchi (munch)
Skank your way into this totally hip and bitchin' izakaya. Munch is a new take on the old idea of izakya. Dishes to sample are the fried tofu, horsemeat sashimi and the 'meat and potatoes'.
The shop is conveniently located on the north exit of JR Nagano Station. If you're lucky you'll hear some Bob Marley over their sound system.

Gomeikan
A short walk from the Zenkojishita Station you’ll find the Gomeikan, a quaint little restaurant next to the post office. Once inside you can sink you teeth into some of Nagano’s best Tonkatsu (deep fried pork), as well as other delights including curry and tempura.
