Standard Hotels

For some travelers capsules, traditional inns, love hotels and youth hostels just won’t cut it, they require standard modern hotels, and Tokyo has plenty to offer.

The fee will depend on how far from the action your hotel is and the age of the hotel. Since time is of the essence and you don’t want to waste too much time commuting, a hotel within the core of Tokyo (The circle of the Yamanote JR line) will serve you well. And prices aren’t too bad, starting in around $100 USD per night for decent accommodations.

Fees increase as you get closer to major train stations and city centers. However, what makes you pay the most is paying for the ‘name’ of your hotel. For example, a one bedroom at the Hyatt will cost you around $550 per night, $700 per night at the Ritz, $220 at the Marriott and $290 at the Holiday Inn. All these hotels are in a downtown area of the city as well.

If your budget doesn’t permit $200 a night for lodging have no fear, there are plenty of quality hotels for $80-$150 a night. For example:

Internet

These days 99% of hotels offer free wifi or at least a business center were you can plug in a hard line. Check before hand just to be sure.

Services

Rooms will include a small complementary breakfast, nothing dazzling just some toast, coffee, deserts. The less you pay for your room the less dazzling your breakfast will be.

Staff in modern hotels will be able to speak English so that is not a point of concern at all. These hotels are well accustomed to dealing with foreigners. However Capsule, and Ryokan are not so well equipped.
